Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest National Park. in addition, the Park harbors the largest concentration of mammals of all the National parks in the country. The Park is located in Northwestern Uganda in Masindi district. This 4 days Murchison Falls Wildlife & Chimpanzee Safari will include activities like game drives and boat cruise which will offer you abundant views of several wild mammals and bird species.
While visiting Murchison Falls, you will also visit the world’s greatest waterfalls – Murchison Falls and witness how the Victoria Nile forces its way through a 7-meter gorge. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls – Stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
After your early morning breakfast, our driver/tour director will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala/Entebbe; depending on where you spent the night. He will briefly give you all the necessary information about your Uganda safari before setting off. Enjoy the remarkable journey with spectacular views en-route. First stopover will be at Kabalega dinner for lunch and then continue. Branch off and make another stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino trekking. On arrival, you will be briefed about the sanctuary and the rhinos. Rhinos are four of the big five (elephants, lions, leopards and buffaloes) and they can only be found at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Uganda.
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary was established in the efforts to breed and protect rhinos from being poached to extinction like they were before. While at Ziwa, you will get the opportunity to explore the rhinos and observe their unique ways of survival in their natural habitat. After spending about 2 hours at the sanctuary, proceed with your journey to Murchison falls. On arrival, check into your lodge and refresh. Have dinner and overnight stay
Day 2: Early Morning Game Drive and Boat Cruise on the Victoria Nile
Wake early in the morning and head for the early morning game drive. the highlight of this game drive is viewing the park’s predators such as lions, leopards and spotted hyenas. More so, expect to spot several Jackson’s Hartebeests, bush bucks, water bucks, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, to mention but a few. Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.
Later in the afternoon, go for an afternoon boat cruise on the Victoria Nile. The boat cruise will take you up to the base of the falls. While on the boat cruise, take time to appreciate the massive views of several animals by the river banks and a variety of birds including kingfishers. Some of the water mammals include; hippos, Nile crocodiles and monitor lizards. When you reach at the base of the falls, you will get off the boat and take a hike to the top of Murchison Falls. As you hike to the top of the falls, you will be astonished by the attractive vegetation that surrounds the falls. At the top of the falls, take time to enjoy the wonder as you witness the Nile squeezing its way through a 7-meter gorge and falling 45 meters down. Spend some time taking pictures and capturing these breathtaking moments. Thereafter, drive back to your lodge. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking in Budongo Forest
Have breakfast and drive to Budongo Forest for chimpanzee trekking. Budongo Forest is the largest natural forest in Uganda and it is part of Murchison Falls National Park. the Forest is home to 9 primate species with over 600 chimpanzees. Upon your arrival in the forest, you will first be transferred to the information center at Budongo Eco Lodge for briefing. Thereafter, your ranger guide will guide you through the tropical forest to trek for chimpanzees. When you encounter them, you will be given one hour to spend time with the chimps. Spend time observing their habits as they feed, play and jump between branches.
After the exciting escapade with chimpanzees, drive back to your lodge. Refresh, have dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala/Entebbe
After spending 3 exhilarating days enjoying the wilderness, it is time to conclude your 4 days Murchison Falls Wildlife and Chimpanzee safari. you will wake up and have a relaxed morning breakfast. Thereafter, check out of your lodge and embark on your safari journey back to Kampala. You will have your lunch en-route the journey and continue.
On arrival in Kampala, the driver guide will transfer you to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. This concludes your 4 days Murchison Falls Wildlife and Chimpanzee safari.
Chimpanzee Trekking Guidelines;
- One has to be 15 years and above to be allowed to trek chimpanzees
- Smoking, drinking and eating near the chimpanzees is prohibited, designated time and place will be communicated
- Carry long trousers and long-sleeved shirts and or sweaters for protection against stinging plants and insects
- Carry water proof boots or hiking shoes
- Carry bottled water for drinking
- Taking pictures and recording videos of the chimps is permitted; however, you are not allowed to use a flash.
